Our Team

Leo Zhu, a highly regarded AI scientist worldwide, co-founded YITU Technology in 2012.

Zhu received his PhD in Statistics from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2008. He studied under Professor Alan Yuille, who is an IEEE fellow and a disciple of Stephen William Hawking, specializing in statistical modeling of computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI).

From 2008 to 2010, Zhu was a post-doctoral fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) AI laboratory, working with Professor Bill Freeman, an IEEE fellow and a founder of computational photography. From 2010 to 2012, he worked as a research fellow at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University, helmed by Yann Lecun, who is renowned for being the founder of deep learning. During that time, Zhu led the team to win the championship of the PASCAL Visual Object Classes Challenge.

He has published dozens of papers on top-ranked professional journals such as PAMI, IJCV, NIPS, AISTATS and CVPR.

LIN Chenxi was a senior expert at Alibaba Cloud from 2008 to 2012, where he built and led a team of more than a hundred senior engineers to build the Apsara operating system, the largest proprietary distributed cloud computing OS in China. Prior to Alibaba, he conducted research in machine learning, computer vision, information retrieval and distributed systems at Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA).

LIN was captain of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University team in 2002 for the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC) that became the first-ever Asian team to win.

World Champions: Our team members have won world titles in many competitions, including ACM, PASCAL VOC, IOI, and FRVT, as well as the nomination for best paper at the ACM CHI conference.

World-famous Universities: Our core members are graduates from such top universities as MIT, Oxford, the University of Cambridge, and the University of Chicago, and they have experience at world-renowned enterprises and organizations.

Full Stack Technology: Our tech team gathers together developers of China's self-made Cloud OS, developer of the global machine learning recommendation system for Android, and senior experts specialized in advanced technologies such as large-scale distributed storage, distributed computing, operations and maintenance, and algorithms.

2019

Ranked on the TR 50 2019 List by the globally known magazine MIT Technology Review
Named to CNBC’S “Disruptor 50”list, joining companies whose innovations are changing the world.
Launched the world's first cloud vision inference chip Questcore™.
Jointly published key scientific research findings in Nature Medicine, a leading international medical journal, with Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center.
Listed as one of the top 100 AI start-ups for 2019 by CB Insights, an internationally well-known venture capital research institute.

2018

YITU's open platform for speech recognition was officially launched.
Winner of the FRVT again, becoming the only Chinese team to be a three-time champion.
As the sole representative of Chinese companies, YITU participated in the Dubai Future Accelerators program and was shortlisted as one of the winners.
Won the Super AI Leader (SAIL) Award for Innovation in 2018, the inaugural year of the award.
YITU and West China Hospital jointly launched the world's first intelligent disease database for clinical research in lung cancer and the world's first multidisciplinary intelligent diagnostic system for lung cancer.
Empowered Fuzhou to be the world's first digital city model based on facial recognition technologies.

2017

Established an R&D center in Singapore as a start of its global strategic expansion.
Invested in the AI chip maker ThinkForce.
Invested in the AI pharmaceutical company AccutarBio.
Named a winner in the Face Recognition Prize Challenge (FRPC) organized by the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA).
Launched its care.ai® product series.
Won first place in the Face Recognition Vendor Test (FRVT) organized by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

2016

YITU's intelligent assistant diagnostic products for chest CT was launched at several top-ranked hospitals in China.
China Merchants Bank adopted YITU's Smart Banking solutions at its ATMs nationwide.

2015

China Merchants Bank adopted YITU’s Smart Banking solutions at its 1,500 outlets in China.
Worked with Alibaba Cloud to build a cloud platform for smart transportation management.
